To use your PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, or the PlayStation Network, you need a valid email account and a password. If you forget the password, though, it’s almost a puzzle to figure out how to reset it. Here’s a step-by-step guide to change your PlayStation Network (PSN) password on multiple devices.

What If I Don’t Remember My Verification Information?

If you can’t remember the security question or other key information, you’ll need to call Sony’s helpline directly. You’ll need the email address or PSN name you use on the system, and some form of identification, such as your driver’s license.

You’ll need access to the email address you use to sign into PSN, and a separate device like a smartphone or computer to check that email. Additionally, if you want to reset the password and are already signed in, you’ll need to sign out first.

How to Change PSN Password From a Browser

If you need to reset the PlayStation password from a distance, you can easily do it online.

  • Start by going to the Sony Entertainment Network Sign-In page.
  • Under the sign in button, select the Trouble signing in? link and it will take you to a set of options.
  • Select the Reset your password link and it’ll send a password verification email to the address you use to sign in.
  • The link will be good for 24 hours, but it may take a few minutes to be sent to your email. Be sure to check your spam and junk folders if you can’t find the email.
  • Once the email arrives, select the link and change your password on the website. You can log into your PlayStation account via the website, but you won’t be able to log into your device remotely.

How to Change PSN Password on PS4

If you’re logged out of your PlayStation 4, or simply can’t remember your password, you can easily change your password using the PS4.

This password change will apply to all of your PlayStation devices.

PlayStation Password Reset on PS3

For the PlayStation 3, the process is slightly different.

Only a “family manager” can change the password on a system. If you only have an account on the PlayStation and aren’t the manager, you’ll need to ask whoever is to change the PSN password for you.

On the main screen, select the Settings icon on the far right of the main menu.

Select Account Management, then choose Sign In.

Press the Triangle button on the controller and you’ll be prompted to provide the email address for your account.

Once you do so, you’ll be asked for some other identifying data, and then sent a verification email.

Complete the verification process by following the link and entering a new password.

Return to the Account Management screen, select Sign In, and enter your new password.

  • You’ll need to find and select the PlayStation Network icon, next to Friends, on the main screen.
  • Select Forgot Your Password, then enter your email and date of birth of the primary user.
  • Select Confirm. You’ll receive the verification email shortly.
