Google just added a pretty useful option to Chrome 29 that let you reset the browser’s settings to its defaults. This is a great new feature in case you install an application and without your knowledge changes settings in Chrome, such as current default search engine, or it installs a new extension or toolbar. Sometimes changes like these can cause unwanted behaviors on your browsing experience. Using the new reset settings option in Chrome can really help — and don’t worry, passwords, bookmarks, or apps will not be affected in the process.

Basically the settings below will go back to its original state:

  • Default search engine
  • Startup taps will be cleared
  • Homepage button will go back to hiding
  • New Tab page will be empty
  • Themes and extensions will be disabled
  • Site data and cookies will be cleared
  • Content settings will be cleared
  • Pinned tabs will get unpinned

Push button reset in Chrome:

  1. From the far upper-right corner, click the menu button and select Settings. (Or simply type: Chrome://settings on the search box and press enter.)

  2. Scroll down and click Show advanced settings.

  3. Find and click Reset browser settings.

  4. Finally in the dialog box click Reset and hopefully everything will go back to normal.

Now that we are still talking about Chrome 29, it is a good time to also mention that the search giant has improved the omnibox with suggestions based on your browsing behavior and you’ll notice a new dialog box design. Mac users are now getting rich notifications, and Android users will experience better scrolling and start-up performance.
