Record a FaceTime Call on iPhone and iPad

As with many Apple things, recording a FaceTime call is the same on iPhone and iPad. So, although the screenshots below display iPhone, you can follow the same steps on your iPad.

  • Open the iPhone Control Center to access the built-in screen recording tool.
  • Tap the Screen Record button. It starts a three-second countdown giving you time to close the Control Center and open FaceTime.
  • To speed up the process, you can open FaceTime first, have it ready to place the call, and then open the Control Center and tap the screen record button.
  • Place your call in the FaceTime app.
  • Note
  • Be aware that the screen recording tool captures everything on your screen from when the three-second countdown ends until you stop the recording.
  • To stop the recording, tap the red status bar at the top of your device screen.
  • You’ll be asked to confirm that you want to stop recording—tap Stop. The recording is then saved to your Photo Library.

Tip

If you want to edit the video you capture after your call to remove the opening of FaceTime and connecting to your pal; you can do so.

You’ll notice that if you enable the microphone for the screen recorder and place your call, only the video will record. You won’t hear any sounds in your recording except those from your device before and after the FaceTime call.
