This article explains two easy ways to see how many shares your Facebook post has and how to view it on older posts. Instructions apply to any web browser viewing Facebook.

What to Know

  • Easiest way: Check your notifications. Select the Alarm bell in the top right corner of Facebook to view all notifications.Second easiest way: Check the original post. Look for text stating something like “# share” where # is the number of shares made. For older posts, in the Search box, enter phrase connected to post, and then press Enter. On the left-hand side, select Posts From You > Share.

Check Your Notifications

If you’ve recently posted something, the easiest way to check if it’s been shared is to check your notifications.

Tap the alarm bell in the top right corner of Facebook and see what new notifications are there. If a post has been shared, it’ll tell you the name of the person and how many hours ago they shared it. You may also receive an email informing you of this, depending on if you have email updates set up.

Check the Original Post

It’s possible to check directly from your timeline whether someone has shared your content.

  • Select your name on the main Facebook page.
  • Scroll down to look at your posts.
  • If you see text directly underneath a post that says something like ‘1 share’ (or more if you’re popular), that means it’s been shared.
  • Select the text to gain more information about who has shared it.
  • The information may include the name of the friend who shared it, anything extra they’ve added to it such as commentary, and any comments they may have received from their friends. However, some posts may not appear due to the person’s privacy settings.

How to Find Older Posts

How do you find who shared a post from long ago? That’s a little trickier, but still fairly simple to do.

Select your name on the main Facebook page.

Scroll down to look at your posts.

Select Share to see who else has shared it.

Want to see what else your friends are saying about the subject? Select Your Friends to see related posts.

Go to the post in question, such as on a Facebook page or friend’s account, then select Share. You’ll see a list of the people who have shared the post.

Depending on the person’s privacy settings, you might not see everyone who has shared the post.

  • If someone blocked me, will they see my post if their friend shared it?
  • Once you’ve been blocked by someone, nothing you post or share will be visible to them no matter who else may share it. The only way they would see one of your posts is if a mutual friend posted their own screen shot of the original.
  • How do I remove posts shared from my Facebook page?
  • You can’t delete a specific post of yours that’s been shared by someone else, but you can delete the original post. In the upper-right corner of the post, select the three dots > Move to Trash > Move. Any reposts or shares will become blank.
