In this How-To article I just wanted to share a couple useful tips that can enable you to skip through a YouTube video quickly using the keyboard and/or share a specific portion of a video with your friends.

Using the mouse is the traditional way  to skip through a YouTube video, but it is not the only way. You can also skip through a YouTube video by just pressing the keyboard numbers (0-9). If you press 0 you’ll always come back to the beginning of the video, pressing the 2 key will skip 20% part of the video and so on with the other keys.

But what about if you want to share a YouTube video and you only want to share a specific part of that video? OK, here is another tip that it only requires to simply append an extra piece of information in the video’s URL, which allows you to skip a video to a specific time (timecode).

Where X represent the number of hours, minutes and seconds.

For example, if I was sharing this YouTube video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K9jfLDrm2Q and I wanted the other person to start watching at the 45 seconds mark, the URL would look something like this:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K9jfLDrm2Q#t=0h0m45s

There you have it, two ways to skip through a YouTube video with number keys and using a timecode to share a specific part of a video.
